Chapter 5 Overview

Chapter 5 is titled 'Special Occupancies' and covers electrical systems that are used within specific types of occupancies. These occupancies are considered to pose a greater degree of hazard risk and hence are required to have electrical systems with greater levels of risk offsetting design and construction. The purpose of this chapter is to prevent explosions, fires, electrical shocks and burns, electrocution, interference with other functions of a building, loss of power, and/or premature degradation of materials.

The model shows a hospital which is one type of special occupancy in this chapter.
