Section R908.5 is titled 'Reinstallation of materials' and covers the requirements for reusing roof coverings. The allowance for reuse of uncracked and unbroken slate, clay, or cement tiles and non-rusted or otherwise damaged or deteriorated flashings, as well as disallowance for reuse of aggregate surfaced coverings is established. The purpose of this section is to protect the structure from weather and prevent roof coverings from detaching from the roof assembly.

The model shows some slate shingles with a cracked unit highlighted which may not be reused.
