R908.1

Section R908.1 is titled 'General' and covers requirements for reroofing. Reroofing complying with this section's chapter is established. The purpose of this section is to protect the structure from weather and prevent roof coverings from detaching from the roof assembly. This section has 2 exceptions which allow for existing shallow sloped and single drain roofs to be recovered without changing the pitch or adding secondary drainage where the roof provides positive drainage. The purpose of these exceptions is to allow for existing roof assemblies, that were installed prior to these elements being code requirements, to be reroofed without reconstructing the roof assembly.

The model shows an asphalt shingle roof being recovered with asphalt shingles installed in compliance with this chapter.
