R902.3

Section R902.3 is titled 'Building-integrated photovoltaic product' and covers the requirements for fire classification of products which serve a dual purpose of protecting a structure from weather and also converting sunlight into electrical energy. A cross-reference for building-integrated photovoltaic products used as roof coverings, to be fire classified in accordance with another section of this code is established. The purpose of this section is to slow the spread of fire.

The model shows a roof section with several different types of roof coverings which are addressed specifically by section R902 of the code, with the photovoltaic roof shingles highlighted.
