R703.8.3

Section R703.8.3 is titled 'Lintels' and covers requirements for wall coverings. The disallowance for exterior masonry veneer to support any load except for masonry veneer above, the requirement for lintels to be of noncombustible material, to have a minimum bearing length, to be protected from or not susceptible to corrosion, and for openings with lintels to conform with one of two sections of this code is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure and detachment from the structure.
