R703.8

Section R703.8 is titled 'Anchored stone and masonry veneer, general' and covers requirements for the installation of stone and masonry veneer. The requirement to install stone and masonry veneer in accordance with this chapter, including a table and figure, a limitation on height and thickness where installed over certain backings, and a cross-reference to other sections of this code for wall bracing requirements, based on the type of backing is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent anchored stone and masonry veneer from detaching from the wall framing and premature degradation from water intrusion through exterior walls into a building. This section has 2 exceptions which allow for greater height in accordance with cross-referenced tables dependent on the seismic design category where the foundation is of noncombustible construction. The purpose of these exceptions is to allow for greater heights where the construction is adequate to support the veneer (including during a fire event).

The model shows a section of an exterior wall with a brick veneer.
