Section R703.16.2 is titled 'Furred cladding attachment' and covers requirements for wall coverings. Where exterior wall coverings are installed on wood or steel furring over foam sheathing (installed on cold-formed steel framing), the requirement for fasteners to comply with a table in this code, where wood furring is placed horizontally, for the furring to be preservative-treated in accordance with another section of this code, for the fasteners used on such furring to be corrosion resistant in accordance with another section of this code, and for steel furring to have a minimum coating is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent detachment from the structure and water intrusion.
