R703.14.2

Section 703.14.2 is titled 'Fire separation' and covers requirements for exterior wall coverings. The minimum distance that polypropylene siding installed on walls shall be away from the line used to determine fire separation distance, and from buildings on other lots is established. The purpose of this section is to slow the spread of fire. This section has an exception which exempts walls that are perpendicular to the line used to determine fire separation distance. The purpose for this exception is to allow for polypropylene siding on walls that are perpendicular to the line used to determine fire separation distance, because these walls are less likely to transfer or receive fire to/from another building. This section is one of few in the code where design must consider the distance to buildings on other lots. Should permit applications for siding require a plat of survey of the neighboring properties⸮

The model shows the exterior walls of dwellings with polypropylene siding installed which are separated from the interior lot line and each other by the notated distances in accordance with this section.
