R703.1.1

Section 703.1.1 is titled 'Water resistance' and covers requirements for exterior wall coverings. The requirement for the exterior wall envelope to resist water penetration and provide drainage for water that gets behind the cladding is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent water damage to the building. This section has 2 exceptions which exempt the requirements for the specific methods of water resistance provided by this section, provided other sections are complied with, or the assembly is tested in accordance with a standard. The purpose for these exceptions is to allow for alternate water resistance methods which work with the type of wall construction.
