R703 Overview

Section R703 is titled 'Exterior Covering' and covers the requirements for wall and soffit coverings on the exterior of a dwelling (including when coverings typically used on the exterior, are used on the interior of the dwelling). Seventeen subsections cover a range of use, design, and construction details. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure, detachment from the supporting structure, and premature degradation, as well as to slow the spread of fire.
