R702.2.3

Section R702.2.3 is titled 'Support' and covers requirements for wall coverings. The requirement for plaster lath to be supported on framing members which do not exceed a maximum spacing distance, dependent on the type of lath, as well as for gypsum lath to be installed at a certain orientation relative to the framing members and the end joints to be staggered a minimum distance in adjacent rows is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent detachment from the structure.

The model shows 2 wall sections - the 1st with metal lath; the 2nd with colorized gypsum lath to highlight that the end joints are not on the same stud in adjacent rows.
