R702 Overview

Section R702 is titled 'Interior Covering' and covers the requirements for wall coverings on the interior of a dwelling. Seven subsections cover a range of design, use, and construction details. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure, detachment from the supporting structure, and premature degradation, as well as to slow the spread of fire.

The model shows a wall section which includes a sheet of plastic vapor retarder, water-resistant gypsum board (commonly referred to as 'greenboard'), cementitious backer board, and ceramic tiles.
