Section R609.1 is titled 'General' and covers requirements for the installation of windows and doors in exterior walls. Flashing of windows, doors, and their openings, and a requirement for the manufacturer to provide installation and flashing instructions is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural and operational failure of a window or door and precipitation from penetrating an exterior wall.
