Section R602.9 is titled 'Cripple walls' and covers the requirements for cripple wall construction. The stud size of cripple walls, based on the wall size above and/or height of the cripple wall, sheathing requirements or alternative construction when the cripple wall is less than a certain height, and support of cripple walls is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.
