R602.5

Section R602.5 is titled 'Interior nonbearing walls' and covers requirements for the construction of non-load-bearing walls which are not exterior walls. Size, orientation, and spacing of studs, dependent of whether the wall is part of a braced wall line, capping, and fireblocking of interior non-load-bearing walls is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent non-load-bearing wall failure and to slow the spread of fire.

The model shows sections of exterior walls, floor joists, and an interior non-load-bearing wall. The non-load-bearing wall is secured at the top with slip joint connectors attached to blocking between the floor joists, which allows the floor joists to deflect without transferring load to the non-load-bearing wall.
