R602.2

Section R602.2 is titled 'Grade' and covers requirements of the grading of wall studs. A minimum grade is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure. This section has an exception which allows for a lesser grade stud to be used in certain framing arrangements. The purpose of this exception is to clarify that lower grade studs may be used where the risk of structural failure is lower.

The model shows a section of a piece of lumber, that will be used as a wall stud supporting a floor, which has a grade mark stamped on it.
