R602.10.5

Section R602.10.5 is titled 'Minimum length of a braced wall panel' and covers requirements for wall construction. The requirement for braced wall panels to be a minimum length in accordance with a table in this code, for certain continuous methods to comply with a table and a figure in this code, and where determined by opening height adjacent to a panel, where opening heights are different on either side, to use the taller opening to make the panel length determination is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.

The model shows 2 braced wall panel types, with an 8' tall wall below a 9' tall wall for length comparison. Note that while the table provides minimum lengths for Method LIB, where wood bracing is used, the actual built lengths need to be longer for the brace to cover from top plate to bottom plate at the maximum allowed 60° brace angle.
