Section R602.10.10.1 is titled 'Cripple wall bracing for seismic design categories D0 and D1 and townhouses in seismic design category C' and covers requirements for wall construction. For all buildings in seismic design categories D0, D1, and townhouses in seismic design category C, the requirement for cripple walls to be braced in accordance with another section of this code, to have a maximum spacing along a braced wall line, to be braced with certain methods where certain conditions are not met, for length to be multiplied by a specific factor, for walls of insufficient length to adjust edge fastener spacing and required length, and for walls which cannot meet this section's prescriptive requirements to be designed in accordance with accepted engineering practice is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.
