R602.1.2

Section R602.1.2 is titled 'End-jointed lumber' and covers the requirements for the use of end-jointed lumber in walls. Identification by a grade mark, clarification that end-jointed lumber may be used interchangably with solid-sawn lumber, and special marking when used in a fire-resistance rated assembly is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.

The model shows a section of end-jointed lumber being separated and joined at the joint. In reality, if this joint were to come apart, it could not be reglued in the field.
