R507.6.2

Section R507.6.2 is titled 'Deck joist lateral restraint' and covers the requirements for deck joist bracing at bearing points and ends. The requirement for lateral restraint, restraint depth percentage when using hangers or blocking, as well as type and number of fasteners when using a rim joist is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.

The model shows a section of a deck with cantilevered joists bearing on a beam, with lateral restraint provided by blocking, which is 60% of the joist depth, at the beam bearing, and by a rim joist, using 3-10d nails, at the end of the joists.
