R507.6.1

Section R507.6.1 is titled 'Deck joist bearing' and covers the requirements for deck joist support. The minimum dimension that the end of joists must bear on certain types of materials, and the methods for connecting the joist and its supporting member is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.

The model shows 4 examples of joists bearing on supporting members. The first is bearing 1-1/2" on a multiple ply beam, the 2nd is bearing 3" on masonry, the 3rd is bearing on and connected to a single-ply beam with a mechanical fastener, and the 4th is connected to the side of a beam with a joist hanger.
