R505.3.5

Section R505.3.5 is titled 'Cutting and notching' and covers requirements for floor construction. The disallowance of load-bearing cold-formed steel floor framing members flanges and lips from being cut or notched is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.

The model shows a cold-formed steel floor joist which has had part of its lip and flange cut away, therefore, cannot be used as a structural joist.
