R502.5

Section R502.5 is titled 'Allowable girder and header spans' and covers the requirements for girder and header allowable spans. A cross-reference to tables in the code which provide data for allowable spans of dimensional lumber is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure. Girders and headers may be supporting floors, ceiling joists, and/or roof framing.
