Section R501.2 is titled 'Requirements' and covers the requirements for floors to be able to handle design loads. The requirement for floors to be able to handle design loads and transfer all loads to the structural members that support the floor is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.

The model shows a section of a floor assembly with a weight and arrows representing gravity load. Floors may need to be able to handle loads other than gravity loads (not represented in this model).
