R403.1.6

Section R403.1.6 is titled 'Foundation anchorage' and covers the requirements for connection of floors and the bottom member of walls to the foundation. Cold-formed steel framing connections are referenced to other sections of the code. Wood sole and sill plates used for supporting both wood and cold-formed steel framing, are covered directly by this section.

The model shows a section of a foundation system with the wood sill anchorage highlighted. The foundation stem wall is x-rayed to show the embedded J-bolts. Several measurements must be made to assure that all the requirements of this section have been met. Close coordination is needed between the foundation and carpentry contractors to determine where plate seams will occur to avoid having to drill additional anchors into a hardened concrete foundation. If additional anchors need to be drilled into the foundation, the Building Official must approve the use of such anchors (before they are installed).
