R325.3

Section R325.3 is titled 'Area limitation' and covers requirements for mezzanines. A maximum area ratio of mezzanines to the room they are located within, and clarification that enclosed portions of the room shall not be included in the ratio calculation is established. The purpose of this section is to limit the area of mezzanines for safe escape and rescue purposes. This section has an exception which allows for a greater area ratio provided the mezzanine conforms to listed items. The purpose of this exception is to allow for greater mezzanine area where it is built with additional safety features.
