Section R316.8 is titled 'Wind resistance' and covers requirements for foam plastics. The requirement for foam plastics that comply with 2 cross-referenced standards and used as exterior wall sheathing needing to comply with another cross-referenced standard, excepting where it is installed over another sheathing material capable of resisting wind loads, or is otherwise exempted by the scope of the standard is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure.
