Section R316.5.8 is titled 'Re-siding' and covers the requirements for allowing foam plastic insulation without a thermal barrier when an existing dwelling is having the exterior walls re-sided. Thickness and potential heat based on testing in accordance with a standard are established. The purpose of this section is to slow the spread of fire.
