R315.2.2

Section R315.2.2 is titled 'Alterations, repairs and additions' and covers requirements for devices which detect and warn of carbon monoxide (CO) accumulation. The requirment for CO alarms to be installed anytime an alteration, repair, or addition requiring a permit occurs to a dwelling unit is established. The purpose of this section is to require CO alarms anytime an alteration, repair, or addition requiring a permit occurs. This section has 2 exceptions which exempt the requirement for CO alarms to be added when certain specific types of work are done. The purpose for these exceptions is to clarify that certain specific types of work shall not be prohibited from being done, where CO alarms are not going to be installed.

The model shows an x-ray of the skin of an existing house and a highlighted addition, with enlarged CO alarms shown in both to symbolize that CO alarms are required to be added in both the existing portion of the dwelling unit and the addition when the addition is constructed.
