Section R314.5 is titled 'Combination alarms' and covers requirements for devices which detect and warn of smoke accumulation. The allowance for a single device which detects and alarms for both smoke and carbon monoxide, in lieu of only smoke is established. The purpose of this section is to clarify that combination devices are intended to be allowed.
