Section R314.2 is titled 'Where required' and covers requirements for devices that detect and warn of smoke accumulation. A cross-reference to subsections which cover technical details for where smoke alarms are required is established. The purpose of this section is to require smoke alarms be installed when dwelling units are originally constructed, added on to, altered, or repaired.
