R312.2.2

Section R312.2.2 is titled 'Window opening control devices' and covers the requirements for opening control devices' functionality. The standard by which the devices must conform to, and prevention from interefering with the required emergency escape and rescue opening size are established. The purpose of this section is to reduce fall hazards and assure secondary egress means are not diminished by opening control device protection.

The model shows a window with a highlighted opening control device and demonstrates the emergency escape and rescue opening dimensions (height, width, and area) that must not be compromised once the device has been released and the window open to its largest open position.
