R311.7

Section R311.7 is titled 'Stairways' and, while there is no language directly under this section, it intends to cross-reference all of its subsections, which cover the requirements for many aspects of stairways. The purpose of this section is to require stairways that reduce the risk of trip, fall, entanglement, and bump hazards as well as to provide an efficient pathway between different levels.

The model shows sections of different types of stairways allowed by this section, though some types are not allowed as the only stairway in a means of egress system.
