R310.3.2.2

Section R310.3.2.2 is titled 'Drainage' and covers requirements for providing secondary exiting. The requirement for area wells to be provided with drainage is established. The purpose of this section is to require area wells have drainage so they don't fill up with water and prevent occupants and emergency responders from traversing it, as well as causing water to leak into the structure through the opening. This section has an exception which exempts the need for a drainage system where the base of the area well is well-drained or sand-gravel mixture. The purpose of this exception is to not require a drainage system where the soil itself provides adequate drainage.
