R309.3


Section R309.3 is titled 'Flood hazard areas' and covers the requirements for building garage floors in flood hazard areas. The garage floor being built at or above the design flood elevation, or, below the design flood elevation where the use is limited and is at or above grade on at least one side, and meeting the requirements of other sections of this code is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural damage.

The model shows two concrete slab garage floors and the design flood elevation- the 1st floor is built above the design flood elevation, and the 2nd is below the design flood elevation, but is level with grade on one side, and has been built in with accordance with section R322.3.4.
