R308.6.7

Section R308.6.7 is titled 'Screen characteristics' and covers the requirements for screen specifications below skylights. The amount of weight it must be capable of supporting, attachment requirements, and maximum opening size is established. The purpose of this section is to reduce the risk of severe injury in the event of human impact with the glazing, or if the glazing otherwise breaks and falls to the walking surface below it.

The model shows a skylight being installed with the screening being tested to confirm it can hold twice the weight of the glazing and remain in place under such load.
