R308.6.2

Section R308.6.2 is titled 'Materials' and covers the requirements for allowed glazing materials used in skylights and tubular daylighting devices. The allowed materials and the thickness of the interlayer for laminated glass based on size and height above the walking surface is established. The purpose of this section is to reduce the risk of severe injury in the event of human impact with the glazing, or if the glazing otherwise breaks and falls to the walking surface below it. Heat-strengthened (but not fully tempered) glass, and rigid plastics might not be labeled and would require verification from the manufacturer's documentation.

The model shows each material allowed, including both required interlayer thicknesses for laminated glass. (The labels have been enlarged from what is seen in the real world for the sake of clarity.)
