R308.4.2

Section R308.4.2 is titled 'Glazing adjacent to doors' and covers the requirements for determining hazardous locations adjacent to doors. Glazing determined to be in a hazardous location based on its height above the floor and location relative to a door is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent severe injury from impact with glazing adjacent to doors. This section has 4 exceptions which exempt certain types of glazing or arrangements from needing to be considered a hazardous location.

The model shows a section of a dwelling with the arrangement of doors and adjacent glazing of the base language, including the 2 list items, as well as the 4 exceptions, with the glazing considered a hazardous location highlighted. The measurement arc shows that the exterior window is within 24" of the door, but the interior partition wall acts as a barrier, so the window is not considered in a hazardous location per this section. The glazing next to the closet door as well is only being considered against this section, but must also be checked against another section of the code that specifically deals with windows.
