R303.6

Section R303.6 is titled 'Outside opening protection' and covers the requirements for providing a controlled opening at the termination of air exhaust and intake pipes and ducts. The location of the termination, methods of protection, minimum and maximum size of the methods of protection, local weather conditions protection, and clarity that such penetrations are subject to exterior wall penetration protection requirements of other sections of this code is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent animals and large debris from entering and blocking air movement.

(Care must be taken in applying the minimum and maximum measurements 'in any dimension').
