R302.4.2

Section R302.4.2 is titled 'Membrane penetrations' and covers the requirements for membrane penetrations of fire-resistance rated assemblies. A cross-reference to another section of this code which membrane penetrations must comply, and disallowance for rating reduction where recessed fixtures are installed in fire-resistance-rated walls is established. The purpose of this section is to slow the spread of fire, heat, and smoke through a fire-resistance-rated assembly.
