R302.2.5

Section R302.2.5 is titled 'Parapet construction' and covers the requirements for townhouse fire-resistance rated construction. Parapet fire-resistance rating, combustibility of materials at certain portions of the parapet, and height measurement basis where roofs of minimum slopes, slope towards the parapet is established. The purpose of this section is to slow the spread of fire, heat, and smoke between adjacent units.

The model shows a partial roof/parapet assembly with the portion of the parapet which must be constructed with non-combustible materials highlighted, and translucent planes which extend 30" above the sloping roofs, at a point 36" away from the parapet wall, measured horizontally from the wall. The top of the parapet wall is the same vertical height as the top of the translucent planes.
