R302.2.4

Section R302.2.4 is titled 'Parapets for townhouses' and covers the requirements for townhouse fire-resistance rated construction. The requirement for parapets dependent on the arrangement of adjacent unit roof assemblies, and a cross-reference to another section of this code which details the construction of parapets is established. The purpose of this section is to slow the spread of fire, heat, and smoke between adjacent units. This section has an exception which exempts the requirement for a parapet where a specific construction method is used. The purpose for the exception is to allow for an alternative construction method which is considered equivalent to a parapet wall.
