R301.2.2.2

Section R301.2.2.2 is titled 'Weights of materials' and covers requirements for structural seismic design. The maximum weights of specific elements of a building in the seismic design categories outlined in section R301.2.2 is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure. This section has 3 exceptions which allow for modified weights based on specific construction methods covered by other sections of this code. The purpose of these exceptions is to allow for certain elements to be built in a manner also deemed safe.
