Section R301.2.2.1.2 is titled 'Alternative determination of seismic design category E' and covers requirements for structural seismic design. Allowance for reclassification of a building in a seismic design category E to a category D₂, providing one of two options is done is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure while allowing for reclassification for category E.
