R301.2.2

Section R301.2.2 is titled 'Seismic provisions' and covers the requirements for design criteria of buildings within certain seismic locations. The applicability of this section based on the seismic categories that townhouses and detached one- and two-family dwellings are built in, a cross-reference to another code where the seismic design category is high, a method for reclassifying a seismic design category to a lower level, and components of buildings which are not required to meet seismic provisions, still needing to meet other provisions of this code is established. The purpose of this section is to reduce the risk of structural failure.
