N1103.10.2

Section N1103.10.2 is titled 'Time switches' and covers requirements for energy efficiency of pools and permanent spas. Requirements for a heater or pump motor to have a programmable timer controller is established. The purpose of this section is to mandate requirements for heater energy efficiency. This section has 2 exceptions which exempt the requirement for a timer controller if the heater is mandated by other public health standards to run continuously or where the system is a solar- or waste-heat-recovery system. The purpose for these exceptions is to allow for non-time controlled heaters when mandated for health purposes, or when operating systems that are inherently energy efficient.

The model shows a permanent spa which has a programmable timer for the heater.
