N1102.2.9

Section N1102.2.9 is titled 'Basement walls' and covers requirements for energy efficiency. The vertical location of insulation installed on basement walls, and clarification about when basement walls which enclose unconditioned space must be insulated is established. The purpose of this section is to mandate a minimum depth below grade for basement wall insulation to assure baseline energy efficiency is achieved.

The model shows 2 cutaway sections of foundation walls and the adjacent earth. The 1st is less than 10' below grade and the insulation is installed from the top of the wall to the finished basement floor. The 2nd is greater than 10' below grade and the insulation is installed from the top of the wall to 10' below grade.
