N1102.2.11

Section N1102.2.11 is titled 'Crawl space walls' and covers requirements for energy efficiency. An alternative to insulating the floors over crawl spaces not vented to the exterior, by instead insulating the crawl space walls, and details for the installation of crawl space wall insulation and a vapor retarder over exposed earth in the crawl space is established. The purpose of this section is to allow for an alternative which achieves the baseline energy efficiency requirements of this chapter.

The model shows a partial section of a crawl space with the insulation installed down the wall and then horizontally for 24", with plastic sheeting installed above the ground which is turned up 6" and attached to the wall with a bead of caulk.
