Section R1004.4 is titled 'Unvented gas log heaters' and covers requirements for factory-built fireplaces. The requirement for unvented gas log heaters to be specifically tested, listed, and labeled in accordance with a standard, in order to be allowed for use in a factory-built fireplace is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent the building from catching fire and carbon monoxide poisoning.
