R1003.8

Section R1003.8 is titled 'Additional load' and covers requirements for masonry chimneys. The disallowance for a chimney to support other structural loads than the chimney itself, unless the chimney has been specifically designed for the additional loads is established. The purpose of this section is to prevent structural failure and the building from catching fire.

The model shows a partial section of a chimney which is also being loaded by an I-beam, which is not compliant with this section.
